CALGARY, March 8, 2019 – Shaw Communications Inc. today announced the expansion of Freedom Mobile into Cobourg, Trenton, Belleville, Brockville, Cornwall and Pembroke – giving residents in these six Eastern Ontario communities access to the affordable and abundant data plans that are disrupting the Canadian wireless market.
“Canadians deserve more for their wireless dollar and they should be able to get an abundance of data without breaking the bank,” said Paul McAleese, President, Wireless, Shaw Communications. “As we expand into more communities, we continue to live up to our commitment to disrupt the marketplace and introduce true wireless competition that gives Canadians more for their hard-earned dollar.”
As part of its expansion, Freedom Mobile is offering residents in the Cobourg, Trenton, Belleville, Brockville, Cornwall and Pembroke markets the opportunity to take advantage of introductory pricing and receive 10GB of data along with unlimited Canada-wide talk and text.
“We exist because Canadians deserve better, which is why we have compelling voice and data plans available for our customers that challenge what Canadians should expect from their wireless carrier, with no strings or hidden fees attached,” said Mr. McAleese. “We’re looking forward to providing residents in these Eastern Ontario communities with access to the same fair and affordable plans that have redefined the marketplace in other parts of Canada.”
Freedom Mobile’s expansion into Eastern Ontario comes after Shaw has made substantial investments in its wireless network to reach more Canadians. This year, Freedom Mobile’s expansion plans include launching service in new communities across B.C., Alberta and Ontario, providing access to 1.3 million more people.
“I am excited to see another cell service provider move to our community. The Bay of Quinte, like any other setting, is eager for opportunities to further improve the connectedness of our local networks to those beyond our region. We’re excited to have yet another telecom provider bring even more options our way,” said Neil Ellis, Member of Parliament, Bay of Quinte.
“I would like to extend a warm welcome to Freedom Mobile here in Belleville Ontario. The Bay of Quinte is and will continue to be a great place to invest, grow and create jobs,” said Todd Smith, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and MPP Bay of Quinte. “Freedom Mobile will bring its fast LTE network and affordable data plans here to our community broadening the consumer’s choice in the wireless market. We are always pleased to welcome new and innovative businesses into our community that yield good jobs, promote affordability and contribute to the overall economic growth.”
"I am very happy to welcome Freedom Mobile into our community and thank them for their investment in Belleville and along the 401 corridor,” said Mitch Panciuk, Mayor of the City of Belleville. “Our residents win when we have a competitive market for services and having another option such as Freedom Mobile provides more choice and a more competitive market. I wish them much success."
