Shaw Communications launches the second annual "Lights of Hope" fundraising campaign in support of the Canadian Cancer Society
November 29, 2013
Victoria, British Columbia (November 29, 2013) — Shaw Communications Inc. announced today the launch of the second-annual Lights of Hope fundraising campaign in support of the Vancouver Island region of the Canadian Cancer Society.
The campaign, beginning today, raises funds for the local Canadian Cancer Society, while supporting those who have been impacted by the disease. For a minimum $10 donation, loved ones, friends and community members are invited to light up a Christmas tree bulb in dedication to someone who has fought against cancer. Dedications will appear on the Canadian Cancer Society's Lights of Hope online recognition wall and acknowledged on Shaw TV community programming.
"This campaign provides families and friends a way to show their support for the person, or people, in their lives who have been diagnosed with cancer," said Debi Dempsey, Team Lead Annual Giving at the Vancouver Island Region of the Canadian Cancer Society. "By illuminating the tree, we shine a light on those we love and support, but we also raise funds to help researchers find new ways to manage, and in some cases cure, cancer."
In support of the campaign, Shaw TV's go! lifestyle magazine program is running weekly stories featuring various aspects of the Canadian Cancer Society. Tune in to Shaw TV throughout December to learn more about the Canadian Cancer Society support programs, fundraising initiatives, healthy living and cancer prevention.
"Every light on the Shaw Lights of Hope Christmas tree represents the courage and hope of someone who has faced cancer," said Kerry Hunt, Regional Manager, Shaw Communications Inc. "The tree is a symbol of support, and we invite community members to share a little light this Christmas."
