A message to our customers
July 19, 2012
Sometimes in business, emergencies happen that affect more than just the business. In the case of the explosion and fire at Shaw Court in Calgary last Wednesday, the emergency at Shaw Communications reached far and wide. It affected our staff, our customers, our building tenants, and many Albertans. Cleaning up after this fire is more than just a mop and bucket. It’s restoring service, restoring systems, and restoring faith in Shaw’s ability to provide the best customer service we can. We apologize for the difficulties caused by the fire last week.
IBM, our tenant, was seriously affected by what happened at Shaw Court; IBM’s customers, Service Alberta and Alberta Health Services, felt the effect for days afterwards. We sincerely apologize for the hardships this has caused Albertans. We will do all we can to restore our tenants’ ability to serve their customers.
We are taking this incident seriously, and using it to make changes in our future operations. We need to learn why the damage was so extensive, so that we can make changes at Shaw Court after restoration. We will work with the City of Calgary fire department to determine the cause of the fire and what changes need to be made in the restored building.
Shaw will continue to provide regular updates on the recovery plan. Updates will be found at www.shaw.ca. The site will have contact information, and updated information on operations and customer service.
We sincerely thank our customers and building tenants for their patience while we handle this crisis. We understand this has been a frustrating time for everyone, and we will work harder in the future to make your experience with Shaw better. We thank our staff at Shaw who remain focused on customer care.
We pledge to make all services at Shaw stronger, safer and more secure.
